A very special piece of design. This sofa was made by the Dutch interior designer Jan des Bouvrie himself in 1962. He was 20 years old at that time and he made it most likely during or short after his time at the Rietveld Academy. This sofa is completely original and would be more suitable as a collectors item. The fabric shows signs of age and use and does have some stainage on the down side of some cushions. Documented in a catalogue of Jan des Bouvrie. Seat height: 37 cm. We inquired by Jan des Bouvrie office and received an e-mail message by Studio Jan des Bouvrie: "Deze bank is inderdaad één van de eerste banken van Jan des Bouvrie. Het betreft een uniek exemplaar. Jan heeft de bank zelf gemaakt". Translated: "This sofa is actually one of the first sofa's of Jan des Bouvrie. This is a unique item. Jan has made the sofa himself." Sadly Jan passed away at the age of 78 in October 2020. He was one of the most prominent Dutch designers and has made an important mark on Dutch interiors in recent decades.
