The 'Pernilla' easy chair was designed in 1944 by the Swedish architect and designer Bruno Mathsson. This model looked similar as the earlier 'Miranda', which had a waterfall-style front in contrast to the 'ramp' that the Pernilla has. Mathsson also moved the sitter's center of gravity lower to the ground. In the 1950s Mathsson had shifted away from furniture to focus on architecture, however in the 1960s he returned to the furniture, collaborating with Swedish manufacturer Dux, who was interested in bringing the Pernilla back.
This model 'Pernilla' has a seatframe of solid birch, armrests and underframe of laminated beech. It is covered in plaited linen webbing and is equipped with a canvas pillow. The chair is in a good condition, however the upholstery of the pillow is discoloured and the webbing has signs of age and use. See pictures. Seat height 33/40 cm.
